Dry needling

What Is Trigger Point Dry Needling?

Trigger Point Dry Needling (TDN) is a specialized therapy used to relieve muscle pain and improve movement. During treatment, a licensed clinician inserts a thin, sterile needle into tight bands of muscle—called trigger points—to release tension, increase blood flow, and reduce pain. Unlike acupuncture, which is based on traditional Chinese medicine, dry needling is rooted in modern anatomy and neuroscience. Many patients experience immediate relief in muscle tightness, improved range of motion, and better overall function after treatment.

How Does It Work?

Dry needling has a variety of effects on the body. It has been shown to:

  • Lessen pain
  • Reduce inflammation
  • Promote blood flow
  • Stimulate regrowth of tissue
  • Release natural painkillers (endorphins)
  • Relax muscle spasms
  • Improve muscle activation

How Does Payment for Dry Needling Work?

Payment is a little quirky for dry needling. It is considered a "non-covered" service for many insurance plans, including Medicare. If you think dry needling would benefit you, or it is recommended by your physical therapist, then we offer dry needling as an optional "add-on" service at the following rates.

-"Hedgehog" Package ($50): 1-2 muscle groups, less complicated presentations, up to 20 minutes or so of treatment time.

-"Porcupine" Package ($100): 2+ muscle groups, more complicated presentations, over 20 minutes of treatment time.
